Passport Renewal Egypt 2026: Fees From EGP 705, Seven-Year Validity and Pickup

Cairo skyline with the pyramids of Giza

Passport renewal Egypt costs between EGP 705 and EGP 1,110 for an ordinary passport in 2026, depending on which source you trust, and an adult passport is valid for seven years. You apply at the passport office that covers your address, or online where the service is open, with a national ID, photos and, for men, a military status document. Ordinary passports are ready in about 3 days according to one 2026 guide, and no source gives a separate renewal fee.

If you’re researching passport renewal Egypt, the process is clear and the price is not. Egypt’s passport authority sits under the Ministry of Interior, and three 2026 guides give three different fee lists. A 2024 law raised the legal ceiling for the issuance fee from EGP 250 to EGP 1,000, which explains why older figures look low. This guide covers the conflicting fee lists, the cost per year, the cost of urgent service, validity, the steps, documents, timing, renewal abroad, lost passports and the places where the sources disagree. It draws on Al Ain (19 January 2026), Egypt Telegraph (30 April 2026), Dostor (5 June 2026), Banker.news (7 September 2026), Egypt Independent (6 July 2021 and 14 March 2024), Wikipedia (undated when we read it) and a Wikiprocedure page last edited 30 April 2025. None of these is the Ministry of Interior, and the ministry’s pages could not be opened from our tools, so confirm the fee, documents and timing at your passport office or with your Egyptian consulate before you pay. For how renewal works in the United States, see our passport renewal guide.

How Much Does Passport Renewal Egypt Cost?

EGP 705, EGP 900 or EGP 1,110 for an ordinary passport, depending on the guide. None of the sources states a renewal fee separately. Al Ain describes its figures as the price for a first issue, and Banker.news mentions renewal only when it gives the validity period.

Al Ain gives the extras as EGP 100 for next working day pickup and EGP 500 for same-day pickup, and the two totals in the table are our sums. It lists EGP 1,155 for a lost or damaged passport and says the application form (Form 29) is free. The gap between the lowest and highest ordinary fee is EGP 405 (1,110 minus 705), or about 57 percent of the lower figure (405 divided by 705). Egypt Independent reported on 14 March 2024 that Law 16 of 2024 raised the maximum issuance fee from EGP 250 to no more than EGP 1,000 without giving the exact fee. Egypt Telegraph’s EGP 1,110 is above that cap, so it may include other charges, though the article does not explain. Wikiprocedure lists EGP 135, which looks out of date, and Egypt Independent reported in July 2021 that a passport cost LE385 inside Egypt. Use the table as a range, not as a quote.

What Do the Fees Work Out to per Year?

Between about EGP 101 and EGP 159 per year for an ordinary seven-year passport. The arithmetic is 705 divided by 7, 900 divided by 7 and 1,110 divided by 7, which gives EGP 100.71, EGP 128.57 and EGP 158.57. Urgent service raises that to EGP 115 per year on Al Ain’s total (805 divided by 7) and EGP 207 on Banker.news’s (1,450 divided by 7).

A family of four adults pays EGP 2,820 on Al Ain’s ordinary fee (705 four times), EGP 3,600 on Banker.news’s (900 four times) and EGP 4,440 on Egypt Telegraph’s (1,110 four times). The spread between the lowest and highest is EGP 1,620 (4,440 minus 2,820), so the source you rely on matters for a family. Banker.news adds that a child’s application needs the father’s original national ID with two copies.

How Much Does Faster Service Cost?

Between EGP 100 and EGP 550 more for urgent service, and EGP 490 to EGP 500 more for instant service. Each source has its own premiums. Al Ain gives EGP 100 for next working day pickup (about 14 percent of 705) and EGP 500 for same-day pickup (about 71 percent). Egypt Telegraph’s urgent fee is EGP 190 above ordinary (1,300 minus 1,110, about 17 percent) and its instant fee is EGP 490 above (1,600 minus 1,110, about 44 percent). Banker.news puts urgent at EGP 550 above ordinary (1,450 minus 900, about 61 percent).

Each source defines the speeds differently. Egypt Telegraph says instant means same day, urgent means after two working days and ordinary means within 3 days. Banker.news gives 3 to 7 working days for ordinary and same day for instant, and it contradicts itself on urgent, giving up to 24 hours in the fee section and about 48 hours in the delivery section. Ask the office which speed your fee buys before you pay.

How Long Is an Egyptian Passport Valid?

Seven years for adults. Al Ain, Banker.news and Wikipedia agree. Banker.news counts the seven years from the date of issue or renewal. Wikipedia adds that students and men who have not settled their military status receive passports for shorter periods, without giving the length. Egypt Independent reported in 2021 that a passport issued on a birth certificate is valid for one year, and that a machine-readable passport cannot be extended.

Wikiprocedure says in one place that Egyptian passports are valid for 10 years, which contradicts the other sources. Seven years is the working figure, and ask the office if you are a student or have an open military file.

How Do You Renew?

Visit the passport office that covers your address or use the online portal. Dostor lists five steps for the office route.

  1. Go to the passport office that covers the address on your national ID card.
  2. Fill out the renewal form accurately.
  3. Submit your documents to the staff member for review.
  4. Pay the set fees.
  5. Wait for a pickup date.

Egypt Telegraph names the Passport, Immigration and Nationality Authority in Abbassia as an alternative and says to collect the passport on the date for the service you chose. Al Ain describes an online route with seven steps: open the authority’s portal, create an account, enter your data, upload a recent photo and a scan of your national ID, upload the military status certificate if you are a man and the marriage certificate if you want a husband’s name recorded, pay electronically and choose a pickup date. It does not give the portal address or say whether an office visit is still needed.

Al Ain says you can apply in person, through a first-degree relative or through an agent with a special power of attorney that covers passport transactions. It lists spouses, parents of minors, adult children for parents and adult siblings for minor siblings. A grandfather or uncle can apply when both parents are abroad. The form limits the profession field to 32 characters in Arabic and 35 in English.

Which Documents Do You Need?

Your national ID, your old passport and recent photos, plus papers for special cases. The lists overlap, with some differences.

  • A valid national ID card. Dostor says it is required for applicants 16 and over, as does Egypt Independent (2021), while Egypt Telegraph says over 15, and the sources do not reconcile.
  • The old or expiring passport, shown for verification according to Dostor.
  • A computerized birth certificate with the national ID number for children, according to Egypt Telegraph for under 15 and Banker.news for under 16.
  • Recent colour photos, 4 by 6, white background. Al Ain says four, while Egypt Telegraph and Banker.news say three.
  • The original military status document, for men.
  • An enrolment certificate for the current year, for students.
  • A degree certificate if the profession is not shown on the ID, according to Al Ain and Banker.news.
  • A marriage certificate and a copy, for wives who want the husband’s name listed.

Banker.news says to submit two copies of the military and marriage documents and says Form 29 is filled out by hand. Wikipedia says some first-time applicants who are neither students nor pensioners must pay a guarantee, and that frequent travellers are exempt. That rule appears in only one source, so ask the office whether it applies to you. A traveler bringing three photos to an office that asks for four should bring a spare set.

How Long Does Passport Renewal Egypt Take?

About 3 days for ordinary service according to Egypt Telegraph, and 3 to 7 working days according to Banker.news. Both guides give same-day pickup for the instant service. Wikiprocedure gives 15 days, with collection after 10 working days for normal applications or 2 working days for express, but that page contains clear errors, such as documents that refer to Ghana.

The sources agree that speed is a matter of the fee you pay. A traveler leaving in a week should choose urgent or instant service and ask the office for the pickup date at submission. Do not rely on the Wikiprocedure figures.

What If the Passport Is Lost or Damaged?

Al Ain lists EGP 1,155 for a lost or damaged passport. That is EGP 450 more than its EGP 705 first-issue fee (1,155 minus 705), or about 64 percent. None of the other sources lists a replacement fee, and none lists the extra documents, such as a police report. Ask the passport office what it needs and whether the urgent and instant premiums apply on top.

How Does Renewal Work Abroad?

Apply through an Egyptian consulate, and expect a much longer wait. Al Ain says Egyptians outside the country apply at their consulates and gives no further detail. Egypt Independent reported on 6 July 2021 that the Egyptian Embassy in the United States charged US$110 and that the new machine-readable passport is printed in Egypt. It gave the wait as “six to three weeks” in one place and “six to eight weeks” in another, so the figure is unclear. The same report says the old passport is cancelled automatically once the new one is printed.

Wikipedia says the process abroad can take upwards of a month and that an embassy may in rare cases grant an extension so you can return to Egypt and renew for the full seven years. The consulate must provide security documentation for that, which can take a month or more. The US$110 figure is from 2021 and may have changed, so confirm it with your consulate. An Egyptian in Houston who needs the passport for a trip in three weeks should not count on the abroad route.

Which Route Fits Which Applicant?

Use the passport office in Egypt if you can, and the consulate if you are abroad. The table lines up the options.

How Reliable Are the Sources?

The process and the validity are consistent, and the fees and the timing are not. Al Ain, Banker.news and Egypt Telegraph agree on the documents in broad terms and on seven years. They disagree on the ordinary fee (705, 900 and 1,110), the urgent fee, the number of photos and the age at which an ID card is required.

All of them are news or consumer sites. The oldest is the 2021 Egypt Independent report and the newest is the September 2026 Banker.news article, and Dostor, Al Ain and Egypt Telegraph fall between them. The Wikiprocedure page is not reliable. The legal ceiling of EGP 1,000 from 2024 explains the rise, but no source ties a specific 2026 fee to an official notice.

What Should You Check Before You File?

Confirm the fee for your speed, your photo count and your pickup date. Three quick checks save the most time.

  1. Ask the passport office for the exact fee for ordinary, urgent or instant service.
  2. Check whether you need three or four photos and which military or student papers apply.
  3. Ask for the pickup date at submission.

A parent applying for a 14-year-old should bring the computerized birth certificate and the father’s original ID with two copies.

Which Mistakes Delay Passport Renewal Egypt?

Missing the military certificate and relying on old fee figures cause most delays. Check each point first.

  • Forgetting the military status document, for men.
  • Bringing photos that do not match the specifications or too few photos.
  • Using the EGP 135 or LE385 figures from older pages.
  • Applying at an office that does not cover your address.
  • Assuming the first-issue fee is the renewal fee.
  • Skipping the old passport.
  • Paying through an unofficial site.
  • Waiting until the passport is about to expire.
