Passport Renewal Bangladesh 2026: E-Passport Fees, Steps and Timing

Woman traveller in Dhaka

Passport renewal Bangladesh costs BDT 4,025 for a regular 48-page, 5-year e-passport and BDT 13,800 for a super express 64-page, 10-year one inside Bangladesh, according to UNB News (4 March 2025), Visafoto and a Wego guide whose fees were checked on 17 September 2026. Every renewal now produces an e-passport, and you apply online, pay and attend a biometric appointment. Regular delivery takes 15 to 21 days inside the country. Abroad, Wego quotes USD 110 to USD 192.50 for regular service.

If you’re researching passport renewal Bangladesh, the key choices are validity (5 or 10 years), page count (48 or 64) and speed (regular, express or super express). The 12 combinations are set out in one fee table, and the delivery time follows the speed you pick. This guide covers the fees, the cost per year, the application steps, documents by age, police verification, timing, applying from abroad, lost passports and the places where the sources disagree. It draws on UNB News (4 March 2025), a Wego guide (published 12 May 2023, fees checked 17 September 2026), a Visafoto application guide with no date and a Mobiledokan fee article (7 March 2023). None of these is the Department of Immigration and Passports, whose pages could not be opened from our tools, so confirm every fee on the official e-passport portal before you pay. For how renewal works in the United States, see our passport renewal guide.

How Much Does Passport Renewal Bangladesh Cost?

From BDT 4,025 to BDT 13,800 inside Bangladesh. UNB, Visafoto and Wego (as a range) give the same amounts, and Mobiledokan says each fee includes 15 percent VAT (value added tax). UNB does not say whether VAT is included.

Visafoto says students and certain employees may qualify for reduced fees but gives no amounts. It says government employees with a no-objection certificate (NOC) or retirement certificate get express service at the regular rate and super express at the express rate. Mobiledokan lists payment through the ekpay portal by card, mobile wallet or bank, or offline by A-Challan at banks.

What Do the Fees Work Out to per Year?

BDT 575 per year for a regular 48-page, 10-year passport, and BDT 805 per year for the 5-year version. The arithmetic is 5,750 divided by 10 and 4,025 divided by 5. A regular 64-page, 10-year passport works out to BDT 805 per year (8,050 divided by 10), and a 64-page, 5-year one to BDT 1,265 per year (6,325 divided by 5).

Choosing 10 years over 5 saves money when you would otherwise renew twice. Two 48-page, 5-year regular passports cost BDT 8,050 (4,025 twice), while one 10-year passport costs BDT 5,750, a saving of BDT 2,300 or about 29 percent (2,300 divided by 8,050). Moving from 48 to 64 pages adds BDT 2,300 for both validities (6,325 minus 4,025, and 8,050 minus 5,750).

What Does Faster Service Cost?

Express adds BDT 2,300 and super express adds BDT 4,600 on a regular 48-page, 5-year passport. That is 57 percent and 114 percent more than the BDT 4,025 base (2,300 and 4,600 divided by 4,025).

A family of four renewing 48-page, 10-year passports at the regular rate pays BDT 23,000 (5,750 four times). At the express rate the same family pays BDT 32,200 (8,050 four times), which is BDT 9,200 more. UNB gives 7 to 10 working days for express and within 2 days for super express, counted from biometric registration.

How Do You Renew Online?

Create an account on the e-passport portal, complete the form, pay, book a biometric slot and attend. UNB lists eight steps.

  1. Go to the e-passport portal, choose “Apply Online” and select your district and police station to find your passport office.
  2. Create an account with your email, NID (national identity card) or birth registration certificate (BRC) and mobile number.
  3. Complete the form, matching your NID exactly, and pay the fee.
  4. Choose a biometric appointment slot.
  5. Print the application summary and the completed form.
  6. Attend biometric registration with your documents and receive a delivery slip.
  7. Track the status online with the 13-digit application ID.
  8. Collect the passport after notification, with the original delivery slip and your NID.

Visafoto describes the process as online but says the in-person appointment is required for fingerprints and a signature, so only the form and payment happen online. Wego says the old paper passport is no longer renewed and everyone now receives an e-passport. The sources do not state how early before expiry you can renew.

Which Documents Do You Need?

An NID or birth certificate, a utility bill, the printed forms and the fee receipt. UNB lists documents by age.

  • Under 18: an English BRC registered online, and both parents’ NIDs.
  • 18 to 20: an NID or an online-registered English BRC.
  • Over 20: an NID. Applicants abroad may submit an online-registered BRC from a Bangladesh mission.
  • All applicants: a utility bill for gas, electricity or water as proof of residence, plus the printed summary, printed form and fee receipt.
  • Children under 6: a recent passport-size photo with a grey background.

Visafoto lists the most recent original passport, or a GD (general diary) or police report if it was lost, plus a photocopy of the NID or birth certificate and supporting papers for any name change. Visafoto says documents issued in Bangladesh must be endorsed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while UNB says attestation is not required, and the two do not reconcile. Visafoto gives the photo as 45 by 55 millimetres on a plain white background, taken within the last six months. UNB mentions a grey background only for children under 6.

Wego lists the core set as a printed copy of the online form, your old passport with photocopies of its main pages, a photocopy of your NID or birth certificate and proof of fee payment. For a name or detail change it adds supporting papers such as a certificate and a correction form, and for a baby born abroad it asks for the birth certificate first, then the parents’ documents. Government employees bring a letter from their office, which may speed up service.

Is Police Verification Still Required?

UNB says no, and Wego implies it can still slow things down. UNB reports that a circular of 18 February 2025 from the Ministry of Home Affairs removed police verification, so passports are issued based on NID information. Wego says police verification can extend processing times, but its text dates from 2023 and was last checked in September 2026. The two statements conflict, so ask the passport office whether verification applies in your case.

How Long Does Passport Renewal Bangladesh Take?

15 to 21 days for regular, 7 to 10 days for express and about 2 days for super express inside Bangladesh. UNB, Visafoto and Wego agree, and the clock starts at biometric enrolment. Super express is offered at a few offices only, such as Agargaon in Dhaka, according to Wego.

Wego gives regular as BDT 4,025 to 8,050 and express as BDT 6,325 to 10,350, matching the table above. The figures are estimates, and the working days are counted from the biometric appointment, not from the day you pay.

How Does Renewal Work From Abroad?

Apply online and attend your Bangladesh embassy or high commission, with fees quoted in US dollars. Wego lists USD 110.00 to USD 192.50 for regular service and USD 165.00 to USD 247.50 for express. Visafoto says fees start at USD 100 for a 48-page, 5-year regular passport, which does not match Wego’s USD 110, so ask your mission for the exact amount.

Wego says fees vary by country and that super express is not available abroad. Visafoto says applicants abroad need proof of lawful status, such as a visa or residence card. An applicant abroad who needs express service should expect 15 to 30 days according to Wego, not the 7 to 10 days that applies inside Bangladesh.

What If the Passport Is Lost or Damaged?

Bring a police or GD report, expect a higher fee and an interview. Wego says a lost or damaged passport needs a police report, a higher fee and an interview. Visafoto lists a GD or police report in place of the old passport. Neither source gives the higher fee, so check the portal for the replacement amount.

Which Route Fits Which Applicant?

Use the portal and a passport office in Bangladesh, and your mission abroad. The table lines up the options.

How Reliable Are the Sources?

The fee table is consistent across three sources, and the process details are not. UNB, Visafoto and Wego give the same BDT amounts. UNB is a news report from March 2025, Wego is a travel blog whose fees were checked in September 2026, and Visafoto is an undated commercial page. Mobiledokan adds the VAT note but dates from March 2023.

The conflicts are the USD fee abroad, whether Foreign Ministry endorsement is needed, whether police verification still applies and whether VAT is included. The BDT table is the safest part of the guide, and it still needs a check against the official portal.

What Should You Check Before You File?

Confirm the fee, your document set and your speed. Three quick checks save the most time.

  1. Check the BDT amount for your validity, page count and speed on the portal.
  2. Check whether you need the Foreign Ministry endorsement for documents issued in Bangladesh.
  3. Count the delivery time from your biometric appointment, not from payment.

A parent renewing a 15-year-old’s passport should bring an online-registered English BRC and both parents’ NIDs.

Which Mistakes Delay Passport Renewal Bangladesh?

Missing documents and choosing the wrong service cause most delays. Check each point first.

  • Arriving without the printed form and summary.
  • Bringing no photocopy of the old passport’s main pages.
  • Forgetting the NID or birth registration copy.
  • Skipping the Foreign Ministry endorsement where it applies.
  • Expecting super express from an office that does not offer it.
  • Using an old fee table.
  • Paying through an unofficial channel.
  • Expecting super express abroad.
