Dubai Visit Visa 2026: Types, Stay, Fees and Extension

A Dubai visit visa is a short stay entry permit for tourism or family visits: many nationalities get a free visa on arrival, others need an e-visa sponsored by an airline, hotel or licensed agent, usually for 30 or 60 days. It does not allow you to work, and sources say overstaying costs AED 50 per day.

If you are planning a Dubai visit visa, you probably want to know whether you need one, how long you can stay, what it costs and what happens if you overstay. This guide covers the main entry options, the documents, the extension rules and the conflicts in the sources. It uses a Better Vacation guide published 17 July 2026 and modified 18 July 2026, a Wego guide published 7 May 2026 and updated 19 June 2026, and an eVisas.io news article dated 12 May 2026. These are travel and visa agency pages and not the Dubai GDRFA or the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), the eVisas.io page promotes a paid service, and the official pages could not be opened from our tools, so confirm your nationality’s rules and every fee on the official UAE sources or with your airline. For working in Dubai, see our Dubai work visa guide.

Which Dubai Visit Visa Do You Need?

It depends on your passport. The Better Vacation describes four entry routes.

The Better Vacation says the arrival list is long but gives two different descriptions of its size (“dozens” and “well over 60”), and it does not list every eligible country. Check the official list for your passport. For layovers, see our Dubai International Airport guide.

How Long Can You Stay?

Usually 30 or 60 days on an e-visa, and 30 to 90 days on arrival depending on nationality. The sources describe different types.

  • Single or multiple entry e-visa: Wego says 30 or 60 days from entry, and that you must enter within 60 days of issue.
  • Visa on arrival: The Better Vacation says many nationalities get 30 days, extendable once by 30 days, and EU and Schengen nationals commonly up to 90 days in a 180 day period.
  • 5 year multiple entry visa: Wego says up to 90 days per visit, with a maximum of 180 days in any 12 months, and lists a bank statement showing at least USD 4,000 over six months, valid health insurance and a return ticket.

The Better Vacation calls its durations examples and not guarantees, so confirm the length printed on your own permit.

What Documents Do You Need?

A valid passport, a return ticket, accommodation and proof of funds. The Better Vacation lists the common requirements.

  • A passport valid for at least six months after arrival, which it says is strictly enforced.
  • A blank page for the entry stamp.
  • An onward or return ticket.
  • A hotel booking or stay address.
  • Proof of sufficient funds, with no minimum amount stated.
  • For an e-visa, a passport scan and photo, and sometimes a confirmed return ticket and hotel booking.

The Better Vacation says e-visas take a few working days. Wego gives no processing time.

How Much Does It Cost?

Free on arrival for most eligible nationalities, and the e-visa fee varies by sponsor. The Better Vacation gives no e-visa amount and calls the 48 hour transit visa generally free. Wego gives no fee for the initial visa either.

Extension and fine figures are better covered, though they come from different sources.

The two extension totals do not match, so ask for the final amount before you pay.

Can You Extend a Dubai Visit Visa?

Often yes, from inside the UAE, but the limits differ by source. eVisas.io says visitors can extend twice for 30 days each without leaving, if they hold a 30 or 60 day single entry tourist visa or a 60 day visit visa sponsored by a UAE resident or business. The visa must still be valid when you file.

The Better Vacation says a 30 day arrival visa can usually be extended once by 30 days. Wego says tourist permits can be extended one or more times to a total of 120 days and visit visas to a total of 180 days, and that transit visas cannot be extended. These three limits conflict, so do not plan a long stay around one source. Wego says to file through ICP Smart Services or an Amer service centre, and eVisas.io adds the GDRFA Smart Services portal and GDRFA centres, with online approvals taking 24 to 48 hours.

What Happens If You Overstay?

A daily fine, and possible trouble at your next entry. The Better Vacation says the fine is payable before departure and repeated or long overstays may affect future entry. eVisas.io says the fine is AED 50 per day and that leaving with unpaid fines blocks re-entry.

Both eVisas.io and Wego discuss a grace period. eVisas.io says a temporary grace period ended and fines resumed on 1 April 2026, while Wego says the standard grace period was removed in February 2026, and separately that fines were waived for travellers stranded by airspace closures between 10 June and 9 July 2026. These are not the same event, so assume no grace period applies to you.

Can You Work or Do Business on a Visit Visa?

No, not for paid work. Visit visas are for tourism and family visits. If your trip is to meet clients or look at a company, see our Dubai business visa guide, and for sponsoring relatives to live with you, see our Dubai family visa guide.

What Mistakes Cause Problems?

A short passport validity and overstaying cause most problems. Check each point first.

  • Travelling with a passport valid for under six months.
  • Assuming your nationality gets a free arrival visa without checking.
  • Applying through an unlicensed agent.
  • Filing an extension after the visa has expired.
  • Planning a long stay on a 30 day permit.
  • Leaving with unpaid overstay fines.
  • Taking paid work on a visit visa.
  • Missing the 60 day entry window on an e-visa.
